Add a link to your About Me
About Me is the short bio on your Discord profile, the text people read when they open your profile from a server or a DM. Discord lets it hold Markdown and links, so an address you paste there opens straight from your profile.
- Select the cogwheel at the bottom left of Discord to open User Settings.
- Open the Profiles tab.
- In About Me, write your line and paste the full address, starting with https://.
- Select View Full Profile in the preview to see how it reads, then save your changes.
On a phone, tap your avatar at the bottom right, then Edit Profile, and scroll to About Me.
Make 190 characters count
Discord's limit for About Me is 190 characters, and it counts everything: emoji, Markdown and the link itself. A long store address with tracking codes can eat half of it before you have said a word about yourself.
One short address fixes that. Put a single page in About Me and spend the rest on who you are and why someone should care:
- Map maker and world builder. Commissions open: https://noiz.bio/yourname
- Streaming ranked most nights. Schedule, clips and socials: https://noiz.bio/yourname
- Producer. New EP out Friday, listen here: https://noiz.bio/yourname
There is a quieter benefit too. When your release, your store or your schedule changes, you update the page and your Discord profile stays right, in every server you are in, without you touching it.
Show your other accounts with Connections
Connections are Discord's own way to show where else you are. Link an account and it appears on your profile with the service's icon, and because you signed in to that service to connect it, people can trust it is really yours.
- Open User Settings and choose Connections.
- Select the service you want, using View More to see all of them, and sign in to it.
- Discord confirms the account is connected, and it appears on your profile.
Each connection has a Display on profile switch. Discord shows most connections by default, but keeps the ones that tend to carry your real name, such as Facebook and Spotify, hidden until you turn them on. Some, like Steam, can also show extra details if you turn on Display details on profile.
Connections only cover the services Discord supports. Your shop, your portfolio, your tour dates and your own site are not among them, and that is the job of the link in About Me.
Bring Discord onto your page, too
The link works best in both directions: your Discord profile points to your page, and your page shows your Discord. On Noiz that can be three things, each with its own switch:
- Your Discord handle, picture and badges on your card, once you connect Discord.
- A live status dot with what you are playing, streaming or listening to. It stays off until you switch it on, and it needs you in the Noiz Discord server, because Discord only shares your status with a bot in a server you are in.
- A server card with your server's icon, its member counts when Discord provides them, and a Join button.
Connecting Discord walks through each switch. For the server card, use an invite set never to expire, so the Join button still works long after you made it.
When you paste your Noiz address into a Discord chat, Discord draws a preview card from your preview image, or your avatar if you have not set one. Discord's fetch for that card is not counted as a visit, so your analytics stay about people.
Questions
- Can you put a link in your Discord bio?
- Yes. About Me accepts links. Open User Settings, choose Profiles, and paste the full address, starting with https://, into About Me.
- How many characters can a Discord About Me have?
- 190, and that count includes emoji, Markdown and links. That is why one short address works better than several long ones.
- How do I show my YouTube, Twitch or Steam on my Discord profile?
- Link them under User Settings, then Connections. Each one appears on your profile with its icon, and its Display on profile switch hides it again.
- Do I need Nitro to add links or connections?
- No. A link in About Me and Connections both work without Nitro. Nitro adds extras such as custom emoji in About Me, an image banner and a different profile in each server.
- Can my Discord status show on my link-in-bio page?
- On Noiz, yes. Connect Discord, turn on Show my live status, and join the Noiz Discord server, because Discord only shares a status with a bot in a server you are in. Connecting Discord has the steps.
