Adding a track
- Go to Dashboard → Design → Page
- Press Upload under Background Music
- Pick an MP3, WAV or FLAC up to 50MB
Music plays with any background type: you do not have to pair it with a video.
When it actually starts
Browsers refuse to play audio until the visitor has interacted with the page. That is not something we can switch off, and it is the one thing worth understanding here.
- With the enter screen on, the click that dismisses it starts the music. This is the smoothest version
- With the enter screen off, music starts on the visitor's first click, tap or keypress
So a silent page is usually a page nobody has touched yet, not a broken upload. The Audio section under Design → Page says which of the two cases you are in, under your uploaded file.
Music and video together
If you have both a music file and a background video, an Audio Settings block appears with four choices:
- Background Music: play the music, mute the video
- Video Audio: play the video's sound, mute the music
- Both: play both together
- Silent: mute everything
Choosing a track
- Use something you are licensed to use. A page is a public performance
- Keep it quiet. Someone opening your link at midnight did not ask for this
- Loops and instrumentals wear better than a song with a beginning
